Ben 10: Race Against Time is Cartoon Network's second live-action movie of the animated TV series, directed by Alex Winter. In an interview Alex revealed that his 8-year-old son Leroy is a big fan of the TV show. "I had him and his entire second-grade class watching over me like an amalgamated studio chairman" "They made sure I didn't mess up their favorite TV show". In the movie Ben (played by Graham Phillips), Gwen (played by Haley Ramm) and his Grandpa Max (played by non-other than Lee Majors) return to their hometown of Bellwood and attempt to adjust to being 'normal' again. Unfortunately, their lives are disrupted by a mysterious alien invader known as Eon (played by Christien Anholt), who has a unexpected connection to the Omnitrix and whose doomsday device could destroy the world.
The main focus of the series is the Omnitrix, by using it, Ben can transform into a number of different aliens, which he uses to battle the various villains in the series. As explained in the show, the Omnitrix works by binding alien DNA to Ben's, transforming him into the alien of his choice for a short period and then reverting him back to normal. As revealed in Ben 10: Race Against Time, the limited period in which it stays active is a failsafe designed to keep the alien DNA from overwhelming the user. With the project budgeted at a little over $5 million Alex had to make some tough calls regarding pricey special effects, and only four of Ben's alter egos will be seen in the movie "I didn't want to have 10 to 15 crummy looking aliens" "I would rather have really fantastic looking aliens" he says in an interview with Danny Siegel.
